ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project will provide substantial benefits to downtown businesses, their customers and residents. The project will make traffic traveling to and through downtown more efficient for vehicles and pedestrians. Enhanced pedestrian crossings are just one part of making it easier to get to downtown Zionsville. The project will also benefit public safety by improving emergency response times.

The project also features visual improvements that will reflect the beauty and charm of the historic Village of Zionsville. The entire project team is committed to making this project enhance the Main Street experience.

Project Benefits

What makes a peanut roundabout safe?

The curve in the Main Street Momentum roundabout naturally encourages drivers to slow down as they approach and travel through the new intersection.

Is a peanut roundabout safer than a traditional intersection?

Compared to a traditional intersection, a peanut roundabout reduces vehicle conflict points from 32 to 10 and pedestrian conflict points from 24 to 10.

How does the project design protect pedestrians?

Raised crosswalks, enhanced markings, signage, and RRFBs improve pedestrian visibility and increase driver yielding. Slower speeds, shorter crossings, and pedestrian refuge areas further enhance safety.

Timing

This project is in the design phase. Public information meetings were held in December 2025 and January 2026. A detailed construction schedule will be developed when design is complete.

Utility relocation may begin in Fall 2026, and the majority of construction will take place in 2027.
